Clinical trials determine that this is the safest method of whitening for the patient. Thanks to elongation of the whitening process (7-14 days) it does not cause weakening of the enamel, or increased susceptibility to tooth decay, this method also greatly decreases the onset of tooth hypersensitivity. If during treatment there is an increased reaction of teeth to thermal stimuli (hot or cold), this effect can be easily and quickly eliminated by means of a fluoride preparation.
The onlay whitening treatment can be performed after an earlier tight filling of existing tooth decay related cavities and if gums and mucous membranes do not show any signs of disease (e.g. inflamed gums, parodontium diseases). These treatments cause a change in color of only the original tissues, which means that in cases of obvious composite fillings on the front surfaces of teeth it is necessary to change these in order to match their color to the newly achieved tooth color.
These specific treatments are performed at home by the patient with the help of a gel-like whitening preparation, contained in a thin membrane shaped like the patient's tooth, which is put on for the night. During the entire therapy and the following two weeks (color stabilization time), the patient should avoid food products that can discolor teeth and also avoid smoking and drinking red wine - all of these products can decidedly lengthen the whitening process and weaken its effec
